LIFE Meeting - June 20, 2009

Our name is WESTMOOR LIFE MUSIC MAKERS and our special
Concert room is MAGIC MEMORIES PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.

Our LIFE meeting was called Best Friends Day and was held at Julie Slumskie's home. The day was perfect. We had a wonderful meal and we ate out on the deck overlooking a beautiful yard. There were 21 present counting friends. A prize was given to the oldest, Floyd Wiebelhaus, and the youngest who was Taylor Headrick. Julie had a photographer present who took pictures of best friends. We enjoyed seeing Art's collection of antique cars. Thank you, Julie, for having us in your home. We also played a best friend game.

We discussed electing officers at our next meeting. We welcome our visitors and introduced them. Also we welcome two new members, June Albers and LaVerna Jacobsma, into our membership.

Events coming up:

We have approached Bill as a possible future meeting. Chuck and Lyla will be going to HOH and we are hoping she will present a report on the workshops, etc. Mavis also had volunteered to do a meeting on Name That Tune. We appreciate any ideas.

July 14th - Outreach at Covington Heights.

July 30th - Dance at Active Generations. It is a fund-raising event for the Center for Active Generations. Dance is sponsored by Westmoor Music, Westmoor LIFE Music Makers, and North Spring. North Spring is music by Art and Bill from Westmoor Music. Volunteer help will be the Westmoor LIFE Music Makers. Sign up sheets are available on the table. Time is 7:00pm - 9:00pm. This is part of the Take 5 and Grow It campaign put on by the Center.

We discussed the $5.00 dues that each member contributes when joining that stays with our club and is used for miscellaneous expenses.

LIFE group is playing and having fun

Shirley Headrick reports that they had a good time at their LIFE meeting. Mavis Christenson joined the class and LIFE. They all played a favorite song. Shirley had playing cards with numbers 1 - 11; everyone chose a card and they played in that order. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

With graduation in December, they voted to skip the LIFE meeting in December and start up again in January. They did not get a spot playing at the Angel tree in the Empire Mall as they had thought they would. They played at Younkers on November 19th, and will again on December 3rd and on the 17th. Marlys Balk and Sally Linton talked with JC Penney's and may get a date to play at their store.

At the half-party, Stephen had a Family Feud game. The group split in half and played it. It was a really fun time.

LIFE Meeting - November 17, 2008

Mavis Christensen is a new member and we welome her to our LIFE group.

A reminder to all that wanted rewards back before Christmas to send your points in before November 17th.

The food pantry charity is continuing.

There is a Lowrey contest from November 1st to April 1st and the top 25 members will have their entry to the Home Organ Holiday paid by Lowrey. Included will be the registration fee for one room. You may bring a friend or spouse but they will need to pay for their own registration. This does not include transportation, tours, or meals outside of those provided by HOH. You must have brought at least eight new peole to the quick start classes and when they complete their lessons you will put 2009 contest next to their name and the dealer must sign it. The more you sign up the better chance you will have.

Marlys made the motion to have a suggestion box and Lois made the second. Stephen said that the Quick Start class starts today at 5:00pm, November 17th. The vote was taken and it was decided not to meet in December. There were 12 present today.

All members played a favorite song today.

Should I close up shop?

An end to this blogspot has been considered due to an apparent lack of interest. Since installing the Hit Counter, however, I think there are some looking in even though they are not leaving a message. I still believe it has great potential and value.

This blogspot will not be deleted from the website though; and any photos I receive will be available for viewing on:

New Blogs: June - December 2008

This blogspot is being maintained in an effort to keep we students of the Lowrey Organ in communication with one another. We all share a common interest -- that of playing the organ, or trying our best to do so. With the closing of the organ department at Schmitt Music, it is likely that there will be times that we may need some help or encouragement from other former student classmates of ours.

And, besides, we'd like to continue to know what's going on in your life. We're still one big family.

You may start a new conversation in this area and write whatever may be on your mind. I have opened the site to anonymous, which means you do not need a Google account to blog. Click on "comments", write your message, select the button "Anonymous", and then publish. If you use this method, I would appreciate it if you would sign your name, or give some indication of who you might be. Thank you.

P.S. I would still prefer you open a Google account; then we can learn more about you in your profile.

"In Memoriam"

It is always sad to lose someone close to you. Over the years, our Lowrey group at Schmitt Music has become as a family, and losing a friend who shares many of the same interests as yourself is especially a sad moment.

Lillian Wass passed away December 22, 2007 at Scottsdale, AZ. She and husband Milton spent time between Beresford and Arizona. They owned a Royale organ at each location, and in later years when her eyesight was failing, she found comfort at either home playing on the organ.

An earlier loss this month was Pat Dysthe who lost her battle with cancer on December 6, 2007. Pat was a gracious lady who loved life, music, and dancing. She was an instructor for the line dance group at the Center for Active Generations for many years.

They, and others that we remember as friends and Lowrey organ students that have passed on in recent years include the following. Please let me know if you remember others.

Lillian M. Wass (12/22/2007)
Patricia Dysthe (12/6/2007)
Norma Bray (9/16/2007)
Donald Olson (4/17/2007)
Norma Kuhlman (12/3/2006)
Marian I. Meyer (11/28/2006)
Warren W. Morse (5/26/2005)
Dale Steele (5/23/2004)
Victor Seiler (12/12/2001)
George Colwill
